I am an absolute beginner.
In some ways it actually works out better as we are not needing to deal with or fix poorly formed habits or techniques. That said, our lessons are perfect course for those with prior experience who have gaps in their knowledge or end up in a rut which is very common for self-taught players.
Are these one-on-one lessons or in groups?
Great question! They can be either! Our definition of a group is between 2-5 students. Both have pros and cons. Groups have a range of advantages when delivered correctly which is key to having a productive and fun experience.
What do I bring to my first lesson?
Ideally a guitar if you already have one. We do have one you can use for your first lesson. You will, obviously, need access to one to practise with at home. I'm happy to discuss what kind would best suit your needs if you intend to buy one i.e. acoustic or electric, size, brand etc. Important 'must haves' include a tuner, picks & a metronome (either hardware or an app). I highly recommend having a music stand for your book to sit on.
Your local music store will also be able to sort you out with the right tools.
How much time will I need to set aside for practising?
Lifestyles factor here but really the more time you can put in the faster you'll improve. Everyday is ideal and I would encourage you to set aside at least 15-30 minutes a day. It is up to you at the end of the day!
What genres/styles can I learn?
Our generic lessons will set you up to play any genre or songs you wish but I do have specific courses available
I can't read guitar music. Will this method teach me to read?
Absolutely, if that's what you want! Reading is definitely not essential to play and enjoy music, however, it is an extremely useful skill to have.
Many of the specific courses simply use chord charts and guitar tab though.
I really want lessons but I'm a shift worker and none of the time slots available work for me. Is there something we can do?
If you are serious about learning I'll try my best to work in a time for you. Lessons start from 10. am with the last lesson at 7.00 pm
I live out of town. Do you offer online lessons?
Definitely - I currently use the Zoom platform. You do need to be setup correctly to be successful. I have some tips on that.
